Diversions & Excursions

Let’s agree that Stowe is on the East Coast.   Let’s agree that East Coast Skiing & Snowboarding sometimes comes with it’s challenges.   Sometimes it’s darn cold.   Sometimes the precipitation isn’t frozen.   Sometimes the legs just need a break… or maybe Winter Sports aren’t your cup of tea, but you’ve come along as a good sport.

While Stowe is famous for the trails cut by the CCC on Mansfield, there is so much more to our community.

It’s for some of these reasons that SKI Magazine named Stowe one of it’s top 10 towns.   Here’s some of our favorite diversions from the hill…

Experience the excitement & adventure of snowmobiling with Vermont’s oldest, largest and most experienced snowmobile guide company, Snowmobile Vermont.   They offer a range of tours that are suited for everyone from the beginner to the most advanced rider. You’ll be ready to rip with the newest high-tech Polaris snowmobiles, helmets and boots.

Ice Skating

Spruce Peak has a new outdoor rink, and Stowe Arena is our indoor rink in the village.

VT Ski & Snowboard Museum

Learn the history of great Winter Sports in Vermont at the Vermont Ski & Snowboard Museum, open daily 12-5 (except Tuesday).      This winter the museum hosts an exhibit on the history of the National Ski Patrol.

Food & Merriment

More and more, the greater Waterbury & Stowe area are establishing themselves as a destination for Beer Lovers.

There’s almost too many destinations to mention them all… so a good place to start is a Beer Tour. They’re also great as they include a Designated Driver.  Learn more about Brewery Tours here…

Another way to savor a wide variety of brews is to take to one of our fine local establishments.  We’ve assembled a list here of some of our favorite establishments to enjoy local brews.

Some other Après options closer to the mountain include the lively Matterhorn or the upscale Hourglass, located right in Stowe Mountain Lodge.

Old Faithfuls

Stowe has been welcoming tourists for decades, and as such there are some old faithfuls that welcome you year-round.

The Ben & Jerry’s Factory  is located on Rt. 100 on the way from the highway exit up to Stowe.   Whether just looking for a taste, or looking to take the factory tour they welcome you year-round.

Cold Hollow Cider is located just north of Ben & Jerry’s.   Especially popular in the fall they serve their famous cider and cider donuts year-round.

The indoor Jay Pump House Water Park is a little longer of a drive, but can offer a departure from the cold temps outyside

In March, you can also visit Nebraska Knoll or Stowe Maple Products to watch sugaring first hand.

Spruce Peak Arts often has great shows, and we feature many of them on the Pipeline section of our website.

Stowe Local Stuff

Here’s a couple further resources on our site to find fun stuff to do:

So there’s never a shortage of activities in Stowe whether you are on hill or off.   Frankly, we just stopped writing as we decided this article was long enough ~ we didn’t even mention Snow Shoeing, Art Galleries, or Antiquing!   See you soon!
